Friends Only

I love stories. Thus, by association, I love the things that spark them.
I love bon fires, I love provocative people, I love good food, I love a good drink, I love art, I love to write.

I am a Christian first and foremost, then a wife, then a daughter, a sister, granddaughter, an artist, a student, a writer, a story teller. I am a person, who writes a blog about all of these things.
I don't claim to be good at it. My spelling is atrocious, I jump around alot, and I often mix up "their" and "there".
But it has become something that is deeply meaningful to me, because it is my story.
And because the people that I love are so much a part of me, in a way, it becomes their story too.
I also love love love to over-analyze things.
So there you go...
me in a few choppy sentences.
If you promise not to judge my misuse of "there/their/they're", then you may come in now. Just comment to be added letting me know your name, where you know me from, and why you want to be my lj friend.
I will probably add you.

All my love
-Emma

The Uniform Project

I stumbled across this as I was goofing naround on line today. Maybe many of you have heard of it, but its news to me!
I find it very inspiring, as well as I find myself wanting that dress!

Take a look!

The Idea

Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.

The Uniform Project is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India.
this is so interesting!

I want my hair to look like THIS

Photobucket

for the engagement session sunday...

Anyone have any idea how I can achieve this? I'm not real savvy with my hair, I just let it air dry every day...No product, no spray, no iron, not even a hair dryer is involved...

I went out and bought curlers today, and some gel, and a voluminzing spray.

I'm going to be doing some experimenting when I get home.

But for now I'm sending this out into the vast ocean that is livejournal...just in case some hair expert was to, by some coincidence, stumble onto this post, and out of the goodness of their heart...tell me where on earth to begin...

This could be nice too...

sculpty shimmer

I got a new bronzer/blush for the summer, so as my skin begins to reflect the season a bit more, I can enjoy the hughs that only the golden summer light could kiss my skin with.

It has a slight glow to it, so after i put it on in the morning, my hands shimmer all day.

It reminds me of when I was a kid, and I use to play with sculpty, and it would leave a gold sparkly film on my hands.

I like remembering those things.

Discovery

Sometimes we just need to press our hands to the glass, and look out. It's all out there, just waiting on you.

Park, Museums, and General Happiness

I love this picture, because i think that this is the happiest i have ever seen myself.
This is the love of my life, and i think that this photo alone makes it pretty obvious.
It feels good to know that for the rest of my life i can be this happy.
Just to know that he is mine, and I am his.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                  i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

For Christmas i painted sweet little Natalie in her Holloween costume where she went as Fancy Nancy (a character from a book she loves) for Russell and Marita. I'm pretty happy with it. I hope they like it.

kitchens and breakfast rooms

Daniel asked me last night what my dream kitchen looked like...

i firmly believe in bright, cheary kitchens. i need a lot of color. herbs and spices are very important, so i want a WALL FULL of them, each in little glass jars. i want a double oven, and lots and LOTS of counter space. i like open cabinets, so everyone can see my vintage tumblers displayed and all of my pretty serving dishes. i want glass canisters for all of my cerial and breakfast oats and things like sugar and baking powder for cooking. i like deap sinks and something to hold my cookbook open while i cook, and plenty of space to display all of my cook books. ooooh what a dream.

Hrušovany Emmahof Castle
by Alphonse Mucha

When a fire destroyed his employer's business in 1881 he returned to Moravia, doing freelance decorative and portrait painting. Count Karl Khuen of Mikulov hired Mucha to decorate Hrušovany Emmahof Castle with murals, and was impressed enough that he agreed to sponsor Mucha's formal training at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts.

Sharon Sprung

Sharon Sprung makes me want desperately to do one of two things. Either give up, stop painting all together and take up something else completely different, OR paint and paint and paint and not stop until i am as good as she is.
i think i will do the latter.xoxoxoxo )

ok maybe i will never be quite as good as she is, but i really want to try.

recently i have been dreaming a lot, and then, when i remember them the next day i think that they really occurred. first of all, this is causing life to feel very surreal and fuzzy, and it makes me feel constantly disoriented. second of all, its going to get someone in trouble.

last night i dreamed that daniel told me that he wished i would get off his back about getting married. that he would do it on his time, and that i was bugging him.

just now, sitting at my desk, putting students into the enrollment record i remembered him saying this. i became very upset and kept thinking, why didnt it occur to me to be upset when he said this the first time? i texted him

"last night did you tell me to get off your back about getting married?"

"no baby, i would marry you today if we could"

... he was almost in big trouble for a minute.

this is such a weird feeling.

Ross: What do you like better flora or fauna?
Phoebe: Fauna.
Ross: Who would you rather be Simon or Garfunkle?
Phoebe: Garfunkle.
Ross: Why are you mad at me?
Phoebe: You said I was boring. Oh!
Ross: When did I say you were boring?
Phoebe: Oh my God, I remember now! We were playing chess!
Ross: Phoebe! You and I have never played chess!
Phoebe: Oh, come on! Yes... remember that time on the frozen lake? We were playing chess, you said I was boring, and then you took off your energy mask and you were Cameron Diaz! Okay, there's a chance this may have been a dream.

tonight i spent an evening with my sister. she is growing up so fast. what is scarier to me is how much she is becoming a little clone of me, except that she is far more flamboyant and much gutsier, which i am very envious of. I took her into montrose and we shaired a slice of chocolate raspberry cake with coffee at empire cafe. We sat outside in the cool and the dim lights and i listened to her vent about her first boy troubles. on the way home we shouted the lyrics to "hate on me" along with miss jill scott. she really is my clone.

When i was born my mimi noticed three things about me first.
1. that i had "tiny little ears like appricots"
2. that i had long fingers
3. that on the bottom of my feet i had little lines that made the shape of a tulip. from then on she would say that i had tulips on the bottoms of my feet.

i want to make something like these. instead of using actual wood for the base like these i would make them out of ceramic but to look like the wood. my dilemma is, how would you clean them? they obviously wouldnt be dish washer safe and i would have to clean them by hand, which is fine, but they have so much texture to them, i would be afraid that they would never get clean...hmmmm

we'll see

i could just make a few of varying sizes for a flower vase or something of that nature. i think i might do that.

one day in the distant future when we have kids, i will make sure that they have the very best rooms, for their little minds to grow, for them to learn, for them to lay their curly blonde heads at night, for sleep overs, and tea parties, and building forts. for building blocks, and painting pictures, and learning the alphabet. for daddy telling them stories at night, and mommy singing them their favorite song.

tepees

i have decided that when i have kids a tepee will be a necessity, my grandparents bought my cousins and i one when we were little and we got to paint the outside of it. every time we went over to the house, they would pull it out into the yard and we would run around barefoot in it. every kid needs a tepee.

love this song

Oct. 3rd, 2008

im growing my nails long like i told my mimi i would before she died. i showed them to her because at the time, i was growing them, and then at her funeral i bit them all off. i wanted to grow them long because i used to lay in her lap and she would scratch my head with her long pretty nails and she would tickle my arm and it felt so good. i didn't want her hands to go, i didn't want her to stop nurturing, for it is what she had done best for what i am convinced was her whole life.

She was a nurturer, and i didn't want it to stop, so i grew my nails long, i quit biting them for a whole of two weeks. and then i bit them off at her funeral. i didn't meen to, i had cried so much that they became soggy if that is even possible. They were so flimsy that they would turn inside out if i tapped them on the counter. so as i walked down the isle to my seat in the front, holding hattie up at my side, i just bit them off one by one.

so now daniel and i are talking about getting married and it makes me think about my role as a wife. not the role that society has given me, or even he has given me, but my role as a nurturer, the role i want to cary on. i want him to lay his head in my lap in the evenings. and he will study and read his medicine books, and i will scratch his head and tickle his arms with my long nails. i will comb his hair back with them and admire him and think about how much i love him. and her legacy will continue through my nurturing hands.

Before she died i laid in bed next to her and i told her that she could close her eyes, that i wouldn't leave. so she did and i combed her hair back with my long nails, and i lightly tickled her arm like she had done to me my whole life.
"that feels good" she told me.
"you have a mothers touch"

i hold onto that.
